1st April 2023: Annalisa Berzigotti is Clinic Director at the University for Visceral Surgery and Medicine Hepatology

The new clinic director at UVCM, Hepatology, Inselspital, University Hospital Bern, Prof. Dr. med. Annalisa Berzigotti, has been working as Senior Physician at the UVCM since September 2016. In the year 1998 she completed her medical studies at the University of Bologna where she also successfully accomplished her training as a specialist in internal medicine (2004). In the following years she strongly got involved into research. 2009 she obtained a PhD in Ultrasound Medicine from the University of Bologna and in 2012 a PhD in Hepatology from the University of Barcelona. Annalisa Berzigotti has been working as a doctor at UVCM, hepatology, since 2014. Within a short time she was promoted to Senior Physician I and then Senior Physician. In April 2016, she completed her habilitation and at the same time was appointed Associate Professor at the Medical Faculty of the University of Bern.

Her scientific and clinical interest is in particular focused on liver transplantation, liver cirrhosis, portal hypertension, hepatic hemodynamics and non-invasive methods for assessing liver diseases. In 2018 she received the Stern-Gattiker Prize awarded by the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences (SAMS) for her role model function as a woman in academic medicine. In 2022 Prof. Dr. med. Annalisa Berzigotti was the first woman who has been awarded the prestigious Lucie Bolte Prize for her research on liver cirhosis.
